Introduction to the theory

When you are interested in physics you must read “Unbelievable“!

In and before the 19th century scientists have been trying to explain the propagation of electromagnetic waves through space. The relativity theory was not yet known, so the thought that there might be no medium was not current then.

We all know that air is the medium in which sound is transported. It was assumed that light was transported in a similar way an unknown medium. They presumed a medium for the transport of light and called it “ether”. The ether was presumed to be present in vacuum. The ether should therefore have the physical properties of vacuum. The enormous speed of light, almost 300,000 km per second in vacuum, is one property.

Science had to determine the presence of ether. The problem that raised, in proving the existence of ether, was the enormous speed of light. The speed of sound, at approx. 1200 km per hour is already high and yet it is only 1 millionth of the speed of light.

Theoretically there are two possible ethers: ether that can be influenced for example mass, and ether that can not be influenced, which therefore is at absolute rest. In 1727 Bradley observed the stellar aberration of the star y-Draconis.  Science concluded unjustly that it was not possible that stellar aberration occurred in conjunction with dragged ether. In 1887 the famous measurements of Michelson and Morley proved the absence of the absolute ether.

The observations of the speed of light confirmed again and again that the speed of light is independent of the movement of the source. When a medium, in which light always travels with the same speed, does not exist, then the Special Relativity Theory is absolute.

This is undeniable only if ether does not exist.
